Interactive Forecast Preparation SystemAs weather forecasting technology continues to improve, WiscWx, using a new tool called the Graphical Forecast Editor (GFE), has adopted a new and more efficient method for generating products. The GFE allows a forecaster to produce a series of graphics for portraying an upcoming weather situation. These graphics are then fed through a processor which creates text-based forecasts and matrices. The cycle completes when forecasts and graphics are uploaded to the Internet for the customer. Please send any questions about the GFE to digitalforecast@wiscwx.com. The system can only improve with valuable input from our users.

To start, please select the type of the weather data you wish to obtain.

If you chose Text, click the small arrow to the right of "General Location Products" and highlight the text product you wish to view. The forecast for your county can be found by choosing "Wisconsin Zone Forecasts" so it appears highlighted. The matrix provides a tabular look at the prediction. Please note that products undergoing active testing are considered experimental and may not be updated daily.

In 2005, a new forecast coverage area was implemented to adjust to the demands of our users. Portions of northern Illinois and far eastern Iowa have been combined with southern Wisconsin for the "Chicagoland Zone Forecasts" as well as all threatening weather statements.

For seasonal summer products, including severe thunderstorm outlooks and risk watches, choose the lowermost item on the text product list. A new window containing a special Interactive Product Browser will launch. Summer products will be issued daily from June 11th through August 25th in 2005.

If you chose Graphic, click the small arrow to the right of "Official Forecast Graphics" and highlight the PNG graphic set you wish to view. Then, find the day of the week and the time of day for which you would like to see a weather element forecasted for Wisconsin. Some maps will include data for portions of adjacent areas. Check the date and time of the graphic once it loads to assure accuracy. Some seasonal products may not be updated daily.

Note that two graphics are processed per element on a given forecast day. To recall the image for the early morning hours of the day selected, choose "Mrn". For daylight hours, choose "Day".

Once selected, click "Load" to display a new window with the data you requested.
